JW Johnston is a fine art photographer, educator, and emerging videographer. He completed a series of digital videos in early 2025 to create Anthology. His work includes representational landscapes, abstracts of form, motion, and texture, and studies of the "magnificent mundane." Johnston’s solo and juried group show credits include Made in NY 2025, on view now at Schweinfurth Art Center, in Auburn, through May 17; Orazio Salati Studio and Gallery, Binghamton, NY; Anthony Brunelli Fine Arts, Binghamton, NY; Earlville Opera House, Earlville, NY; PhotoPlace, Middlebury, VT; and two Southern Tier Biennials at the Tri-County Arts Council, Olean, NY. His photographs have appeared in Black & White and Outdoor Photographer magazines. His prints are held in private and institutional collections.

A graduate of the Newhouse School of Public Communications at Syracuse University in 1975, Johnston left an award-winning  20-year journalism career to become a photographer. An adjunct instructor at SUNY Broome Community College, Johnston also presents workshops independently and through the Broome County Arts Council. Johnston left behind a 20-year, award-winning journalism career for photography.
