Jim 'JW' Johnston is a fine art photographer and educator. He has exhibited in solo and juried shows for more than twenty years. Johnston’s prints are in private and institutional collections throughout the country.  His photographs have appeared in Black & White and Outdoor Photographer magazines. Most recently, Johnston debuted his first film - Anthology - at Praxis Gallery and Project Space in Binghamton, NY, in 2025. That same year,  his work was selected for Made in New York at Schweinfurth Art Center, Auburn, NY, and the Southern Tier Biennial at the Peg Bothner Gallery, Olean, NY. His photobook - Home Body - was selected for the Griffin Museum of Photography’s Annual Photobook Exhhibition in 2024. Johnston’s diverse body of work includes representational landscapes, abstracts of form and texture, and studies of the “magnificent mundane.”  An adjunct instructor at SUNY Broome Community College, Binghamton, NY, Johnston also conducts independent workshops.. Johnston credits a weeklong photography workshop in the Adirondacks with sparking his transition from a 20-year journalism career to photography.
