JW Johnston is a fine art photographer and educator.  This is his second career.  A week-long photography workshop in the High Peaks region of the Adirondack inspired him to leave behind an award-winning 20-year broadcast journalism career.  During the transition, JW studied photography at Northern Virginia Community College and Syracuse University, assisted Washington, DC-area photographers and taught himself large format photography.  His work has appeared in group and solo exhibitions for 20 years. The legendary Carl Chiarenza selected his work for the international exhibition, Abstract Expressions, PhotoPlace Gallery,  Middlebury, VT.   Other highlights:  publication in Black & White Magazine and a nationally-aired public television profile.  His work was selected for the Southern Tier Biennial in 2017 and 2019. JW’s prints are in personal, corporate and institutional collections.  He’s an adjunct photography instructor at SUNY Broome Community College, Binghamton, NY.  He develops and conducts independent workshops.  He lives in Whitney Point, NY, with his wife, Sharon Ball, and their cat, Miss Kitty.
